2021 Alaina Valdez commits to San Jose City College. Here is what Alaina had to say about her recruiting process and commitment. Congratulations Alaina!
"If there is one thing that I have always known, it was that I would play softball in college.
I have played with the San Jose Sting since 12U and over time have had to face many injuries and many recovery comebacks. Covid19 was the longest of one of those comebacks and it happened in my prime recruiting period of my junior and senior year in high school. It was the ultimate lesson in continuing to work hard and to set goals to keep pushing myself even when no one was looking. I was so relieved to be able to get back out on the field and play with a strong end to our summer season with our team winning Champions Cup in Irvine.
My search for the right college has taken me all over the US where I got to meet lots of great coaches and college players and even received some scholarship offers to join those teams. However, I have finally decided that I am going to continue my academic and athletic career at San Jose City College.
I am fortunate to get the chance to keep strengthening my softball skills with a competitive, friendly group of girls and some extremely supportive coaches who even came out to cheer me on me while I was playing at Mitty this past year. It has been great to feel so welcomed by everyone, and I can’t complain about a college campus that is 15 minutes from my house where my new school colors will be purple and yellow like the Sting!
Thank you to EVERYONE who has encouraged me and cheered me on along the way. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me! Go Jags!"
